A cheerful stroll through Walferdange has become a seasonal sport. The town decorates itself with such enthusiasm that even the local rabbits might feel slightly upstaged. This year is no exception. The municipality has once again scattered Easter decorations across its streets and squares. It is a gentle reminder that spring has arrived and that the Roman Catholic Easter is here. The Orthodox one follows a week later which is very convenient if you enjoy celebrating things twice.
Village centre
The village centre is the heart of the Easter display. Colourful eggs hang from trees and bushes. They swing in the wind as if they were testing their chances for a future career in aviation. Wooden rabbits sit proudly on benches and at street corners. They look friendly enough although some of them stare with the intensity of creatures who have seen too many chocolate eggs disappear.
Parks and green corners
Walferdange’s parks also join the celebration. Small Easter scenes appear between the trees. Children enjoy spotting them and adults pretend they are only doing it for the children. There are nests with oversized eggs and rabbits that look suspiciously well fed. One might wonder if they have been sampling the local bakeries.
Along the main road
Even the main road gets its share of decoration. It is a clever way to make traffic jams feel slightly less tragic. Drivers can admire garlands and bright ornaments while waiting for the lights to turn green. It is not exactly a tourist attraction but it does improve the mood. At least until someone honks.
