The quiet hills of the Clervaux forest

A forest for people who hate noise

The forest around Clervaux is remarkably quiet. It is the kind of place where you can actually hear your own thoughts which is sometimes a bit frightening. If you are tired of traffic and loud humans this is your sanctuary. The trees are tall and do a great job of blocking out the rest of the world. You can walk for a long time without seeing anyone else. It is perfect for pretending you are the last person on earth.

Rolling hills and gentle suffering

The Ardennes are famous for their hills. In this part of Luxembourg the slopes are mostly gentle. You do not need to be an Olympic athlete to reach the top of them. However they are just steep enough to remind you that you should probably go to the gym more often. The views from the ridges are worth the slight breathlessness. You can look across the green valleys and see nothing but more trees and the occasional distant village. It is a very polite landscape that does not try to kill you.

The art of walking in circles

There are many marked paths in the Clervaux forest. The local authorities have done a good job of putting up signs so you do not get hopelessly lost. Most of the trails are well maintained which is nice for your shoes. You can choose a short loop or a much longer adventure depending on how much you want to punish your legs. Even if you take a wrong turn the scenery is so pleasant that you probably will not mind. Just make sure your phone battery is charged so you can find your way back to civilization.

Better than a spa day

Walking through these woods is surprisingly relaxing. The air is fresh and smells like pine and damp earth rather than city fumes. It is a very cheap way to clear your head. If you need to hit the reset button on your brain a few hours here will do the trick nicely.
