A bridge with a view in Strasbourg
The Pont Saint-Etienne is one of those spots that makes you feel like you are in a postcard. It crosses the canal known as the Fausse des Remparts in the heart of the city. From here you can look down the water and see Strasbourg reflecting back at you. It is a very popular place for people to stop and stare into the distance. Most people are trying to take the perfect photo for their social media. If you stand there long enough you will definitely be in the background of someone else’s holiday memories.
The moon over the water
When there is a full moon the view becomes even more dramatic. The light hits the water and makes the whole canal glow in a very cinematic way. It is the kind of scene that makes even the most cynical person feel a little bit romantic. The moon hangs over the old buildings and makes everything look much more expensive than it actually is. It is a great place to go if you want to feel deep and meaningful without having to say anything. Just watch out for the cyclists who do not care about your emotional connection to the lunar cycle.
Dinner on a floating wooden box
Looking towards the Quai des Pêcheurs you will see the ship restaurant docked nearby. It is a very large boat that has been turned into a place to eat and drink. It looks very charming with all its lights reflecting on the dark surface of the river. You can watch people sitting on the deck and pretending they are on a luxury cruise. In reality they are just a few metres from the pavement but the atmosphere is still quite special. It adds a nice bit of life to the quiet river bank.
A walk along the old ramparts
The location is surrounded by history even if most people just use it as a shortcut. The canal follows the line of the old city walls. It is much more peaceful here than in the very centre of the city. You can walk along the quays and enjoy the trees and the historical architecture. It is a good place to escape the massive groups of tourists who usually stay near the cathedral. The air feels a bit cooler near the water which is a blessing during a hot summer night.
