The basilica and its long story
The Basilica Santa Maria del Coro is one of those buildings that looks like it has always been part of the city. It stands proudly in the centre of the old town of San Sebastián. The basilica also lines up with the Buen Pastor Cathedral at the other end of the city. This creates a straight visual axis through the old town. It feels like the city planners wanted to show off a bit and honestly they did a good job.

Today Santa Maria del Coro is still an active place of worship. It is also a favourite stop for visitors who enjoy architecture or simply like beautiful things. It stands as a reminder of the city’s long history and its ability to blend old and new without losing its charm. It is also a perfect excuse to wander through the old town and enjoy its atmosphere.
