Recent weeks have seen Luxembourg’s skies unleash a deluge, leading to the Alzette river’s inundation. While not as catastrophic as the floods of July 2021, the rising waters have once again sparked concern among residents, particularly in the south.
The image from Walfordange, adjacent to the Pidal swimming pool, tells a tale of caution. The bicycle path, a staple of local life, was submerged, rendering it inaccessible. This event, while not reaching the devastating heights of previous floods, served as a stark reminder of the potential dangers that lie with such natural occurrences.
Thankfully, this time, the waters did not inflict severe damage. The community’s preparedness and the lessons learned from past experiences have proven invaluable. Most probably, the newly installed water management system near the Pidal has also proven its worth, effectively protecting the heart of Walferdange from potential flood damage. This state-of-the-art infrastructure is designed to ‘swallow’ excess water from the Alzette river.
