The Scoop That Stops Traffic

A sweet spot in Western Hungary

Bükfürdő, a tiny village in Western-Hungary, is known for its thermal baths and relaxed vibes. But let’s be honest, after a good soak, what you really need is ice cream. Enter Kóczán Fagyizó, the local legend that has turned frozen dessert into an art form. And no, we’re not exaggerating. People have literally recommended pulling over mid-journey just to grab a cone.

The place itself is modern but cosy. It’s not trying too hard to be trendy, which is refreshing. You walk in and feel welcome, not judged for wearing flip-flops and a sunburn. The staff are friendly, cheerful and somehow always patient, even when you’re taking forever to choose between twenty flavours.

Flavours that flirt with your taste buds

Speaking of flavours, the selection is borderline ridiculous. We’re talking 14 to 20 varieties on any given day. Classics like chocolate and vanilla are there, of course, but why settle when you can try “Balatoni Randevú” or “Mézesfügés Mák”? That’s honey-fig poppy seed, in case your Hungarian is rusty.

There’s also “Francia Krémes” which has caused emotional outbursts among customers. One person claimed they were in shock from how good it was. Another said it was the best ice cream of their life. That’s a lot of pressure for a scoop, but apparently, it delivers.

And yes, they cater to the lactose-intolerant, gluten-avoiders and sugar-shunners. There are plenty of options that won’t ruin your diet or your digestive system. Miracles do exist.

Awards and applause

Kóczán Fagyizó isn’t just popular with locals and tourists. It’s also one of the top-rated ice cream spots in Vas County. With a 4.9 rating and over 240 reviews.

While it hasn’t scooped the national “Ice Cream of the Year” title yet, it’s consistently ranked among the best in the region. And let’s be honest, awards are nice, but the real prize is watching someone take their first bite and immediately forget all their problems.
