The Porto Cathedral, also known as Sé do Porto, is a Roman Catholic church located in the historical center of Porto, Portugal. It is one of the city’s oldest monuments and one of the most important local Romanesque monuments ¹. The cathedral has a long and fascinating history, dating back to 1051 when it was first built by the Prince-Bishopric of Liège.
The interior of the cathedral is a sight to behold, with its Gothic, Romanesque, and Baroque styles blending together seamlessly. The nave is narrow and covered by barrel vaulting, while the two aisles have a lower vault. The cathedral’s rose window is a beautiful example of Romanesque architecture.
The cathedral’s loggia or side galilee, built in the 18th century by Italian architect Nicolau Nasoni, offers stunning views of the city and the Douro River.
