The House at the Minute: Kafka’s House in the Centre of Prague

The Restaurace U Minuty is a restaurant that serves Italian cuisine in the heart of Prague, on the Old Town Square.

All this would not be necessarily an interesting sight alone, but it is located in a beautiful historic building that dates back to the 15th century. The building is also known as the House at the Minute, because it used to sell minced tobacco in the past.

The building has a rich history and a unique architecture. It was originally a Gothic house, but it was rebuilt in the Renaissance style in the 16th century. It features a sgraffito facade with scenes from Greek mythology and the Bible, as well as portraits of famous people, such as Emperor Rudolf II, Martin Luther, and Jan Hus. The building also has a sculpture of a lion on the corner, which symbolizes the power and nobility of the former owners.

The building is also connected to the famous writer Franz Kafka, who lived there with his family from 1889 to 1896. It was here that he wrote his first literary works, such as Description of a Struggle and Wedding Preparations in the Country.
