The Central Station of Luxembourg City: A Historic and Architectural Landmark

The Central Station building of Luxembourg City is one of the most iconic and historic landmarks of the capital, and a hub for both domestic and international transport.

The current station building was built between 1907 and 1913, replacing an earlier wooden structure of 1859. It was designed in the Moselle Baroque Revival style, which is also found in other public buildings in Luxembourg, such as the National Museum of History and Art and the Grand Ducal Palace. ️

The station building is characterised by its rich and elaborate decoration and by its asymmetrical shape, with only one tower on the left side. This is because the original plan was to build a twin tower on the right side, but it was never completed due to the outbreak of World War I.

The station is the main railway station serving Luxembourg City both for domestic and international trafic and is used by about 80,000 passengers every day, making it one of the busiest places in the city.
