The Castle of Clervaux

The castle of Clervaux, a majestic building that dates back to the 12th century houses several museums and exhibitions.

One of the highlights of the castle is the photo exhibition “The Family of Man”, a masterpiece of humanist photography created by Edward Steichen for the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1955. The exhibition consists of 503 photographs by 273 artists from 68 countries, depicting the universal aspects of the human experience, such as love, birth, death, work, war, and peace.

The exhibition, which has been seen by more than 10 million visitors worldwide, is a powerful statement for peace and human dignity, and has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Documentary Heritage list.

Another museum that will immerse you in the history of the castle and the region is the Museum of the Battle of the Bulge, which tells the story of the fierce fighting that took place in the Ardennes forest in December 1944, during the last major German offensive of World War II. The museum displays weapons, uniforms, equipment, documents, and photographs that illustrate the events and the consequences of the battle.

The castle of Clervaux also hosts other attractions, such as the Museum of Models of Luxembourg Castles, which showcases the architectural diversity and heritage of the country, and the Museum of the Ardennes Counter-Reformation, which presents the religious and artistic aspects of the 17th and 18th centuries in the region.
