Autumn is the perfect season for mushroom hunting in Luxembourg.
Luxembourg has a rich diversity of fungi, with more than 2,500 species recorded. Some of the most common and delicious ones are the cèpe, the chanterelle, the pied-de-mouton, and the trompette-de-la-mort.
But be careful, not all mushrooms are safe to eat. Some of them are poisonous or even deadly, such as the amanita phalloides, the amanita pantherina, and the gyromitra esculenta. That’s why it is always important to have your mushrooms checked with a specialist before cooking them.
You can also visit the Maison de la nature in Kockelscheuer, where they offer free consultations and identification of mushrooms every Saturday afternoon during the mushroom season.
