Puccini, the famous Italian composer of operas such as La Bohème, Tosca, and Madama Butterfly, was a heavy smoker and coffee drinker: He once said: “I have two passions: music and coffee. I can’t live without them.”
He also claimed that he could not compose without a cigarette in his mouth, and that he smoked up to 40 cigarettes a day.
Unfortunately, this habit led to his death from throat cancer in 1924, at the age of 65.
Puccini was born and raised in Lucca, a charming town in Tuscany, where he developed his love for music and coffee.
He also frequented the Caffè Di Simo, a historic café where he met other artists and intellectuals, and where he enjoyed his favourite drink: espresso.
