The Place de Metz is a square in the city of Luxembourg, located at the intersection of the Pont Adolphe, the Boulevard de la Pétrusse and the Avenue de la Liberté. It is named after the city of Metz in France, which was once part of the Duchy of Luxembourg until 1659.
One of the most striking features of the Place de Metz is the symmetrical double building of the Spuerkeess, the oldest and largest bank in Luxembourg. The Spuerkeess, which means “savings bank” in Luxembourgish, was founded in 1856 and moved to its current headquarters in 1919.
The Place de Metz is a historical and cultural landmark in Luxembourg, as well as a busy traffic junction. It offers a beautiful view of the Pétrusse valley and the Adolphe bridge, which is one of the symbols of the city.
