The Journey of the Tree
This year’s tree, a majestic 30-meter-tall giant weighing over 7 tonnes, was selected after months of searching by the agents of the Office national des forêts (ONF). The tree was carefully chosen for its perfect conical shape, essential for its role as the centrepiece of Strasbourg’s Christmas celebrations.
On 15th October, the tree was cut down in a forest near Saint-Dié-des-Vosges. The operation to transport it to Strasbourg is a delicate and challenging endeavour, involving cranes, trucks, and the expertise of a dedicated team.
The Grand Arrival
The tree arrived at Place Kléber early on a Monday morning.
By 8:00 AM, it had reached the square, accompanied by two additional trucks equipped with lifting arms and a team of about ten agents. The process of preparing the tree for its stand was meticulous.
At 8:15 AM, the protective tarpaulin was removed, and the workers began untying the ropes. The base of the trunk was carefully shaved down to ensure a perfect fit in its stand.
By 9:30 AM, the tree was standing tall on its own, a process that required precision and patience. The workers used a plumb line to ensure the tree’s straightness.
By 10:55 AM, the tree was securely in place, confirmed by both workers and onlookers.
