Luxembourg Airport has seen a remarkable increase in traffic over the last few years. In 2021, the airport welcomed 2.01 million passengers, marking a 41% increase compared to 2020, the year of COVID.
Home to Luxair, the national carrier of Luxembourg, the airport has been synonymous with high-quality service for decades. Luxair, established in 1962 with its first commercial flight to Paris, has been connecting Luxembourg to the rest of the world, offering flights to major cities across Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. The company became also a tour operator in 1968 offering destinations mainly in the Mediterranean region. In 2018, the airline set course for the United Arab Emirates offering flights to the city of Ras Al Khaimah, and three years later to Dubai.
The airport’s embrace of both tradition and modernity is evident in its accommodation of low-cost airlines like Ryanair and EasyJet, providing travellers with a variety of options to suit their budget.
Despite the increasing traffic, Luxembourg Airport remains a comfortable and convenient travel point compared to larger, more hectic airports. Its manageable size and efficient services ensure a pleasant experience for all passengers.
Adding to its appeal, by the end of the year, Luxembourg Airport is set to become even more accessible. Plans are underway to connect the airport directly to the city via tramway, with the expected completion of the extension by 2025.
This development will offer passengers a seamless and stress-free journey from the heart of Luxembourg to the skies above.
