The amazing colours of the sky in autumn
That nature is the biggest artist. It offers us a colourful palette of beauty and wonder. Autumn is an ideal moment to contemplate its chef d’oeuvres, as the sun sets earlier and creates a stunning contrast with the changing leaves.
The colours of the sky are influenced by many factors, such as the position of the sun, the angle of the light, the clouds, the dust, the pollution, and the humidity. The sun emits white light, which is composed of all the colours of the rainbow. When the sun is high in the sky, its light travels through a thin layer of air and reaches our eyes directly. However, when the sun is low in the sky, its light travels through a thicker layer of air and gets scattered by the molecules and particles in the atmosphere. The shorter wavelengths of light, such as blue and violet, are scattered more than the longer wavelengths, such as red and orange. That’s why we see a blue sky during the day and a red or orange sky during sunrise or sunset.
The clouds also play a role in creating different colours of the sky. They can create various effects, such as a golden glow, a pink hue, or a purple tint.
