Half-timbered buildings

The timber framing  (in French: colombage and in German: Holzfachwerk) is a traditional method of construction consisting in using heavy timbers to create the structure of the building. If the structural frame of load-bearing timber is left exposed on the exterior of the building it is called half-timbered, and in many cases the infill between timbers will be used for decorative effect.

With this method relatively high buildings could be constructed in narrow streets.

The country most known for this kind of architecture is Germany but lot of beautiful buildings of this kind can be also found in the neighbouring regions as this one in Strasbourg, France.

Construction technology is my photo for the day.
