This marvellous statue in Loulé (South of Portugal) remembers the popular poet of Algarve, António Aleixo.
His sad destiny (died of tuberculosis at the age of 50), his modest conditions of living and his lack of formal education (half-illiterate) didn’t prevent him to write some of the most beautiful pieces of the Portuguese literature of the 20th century.
With this statue, he is still present in the streets of Loulé where he has been working as a lottery seller.
Literature and Portugal are on my photo of the day.
