La Petite France is the well-known tourist hub of Strasbourg the beautiful city of Alsace. It is known for its cobblestone streets, canals, and well-preserved half-timbered homes. It is registered as UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The name of this area has a less romantic origin. In the 15th century there was a hospital which specialised in treating soldiers with syphilis. It was nicknamed the “French disease”, and the island became “Petite France”.
